Doctor Loses Medical License For Legally Treating Her Menstrual Cramps With Cannabis

Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 11.55.01 AMWashington’s physician health program prohibits doctors from legal cannabis use. When Dr. Yolanda Ng was offered a job as a pediatric nephrologist at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington, she was forced to take a drug test. It turns out using a cannabis tincture to treat the pain from her menstrual cramps would effectively end her medical career.

  1. This is all too familiar , state agencies using Docs on “the list ” , which this article refers to as the “cozy list”. They know that the Docs on the short list will do what they want. IF you evaluate the person and they are fine and state that , you are removed from the list. No surprise that Oregon is corrupt in this matter , what has been going on there with Drs. But Az BON does the same type of underhanded tactics. This practice needs to end , a racket ! AZ STATE BOARD OF NURSING CORRUPTION WATCHDOGS . A petition to investigate them is on this site as well. This whole thing seems so dark ages, and biased . The hospital lost a good Dr. who had already been working their with no problems . Medical schools need to tell incoming students FULL DISCLOSURE , on how the boards operate and have control of your career you spent so much time and money obtaining to lose it over a herb that is legal by law.

  2. I started to comment but looks like they require a Facebook sign it which I won’t do. I wrote the publication about that. I’ll forward this to PMDC.

    • I had a perfect 32 year nursing career, 3 medical degrees, and several hundred very satisfied patients prior to every setting foot in Arizona, which I can say 100% was the biggest mistake of my career.

I was physically attacked in my AZ garage by a very jealous woman who promised she would ‘do or say anything’ to destroy my career. Not only did she physically attack me (was charged for this and convicted), she also told the AZ BON I was handing out medical cannabis to my patients at my private medical practice in rural AZ. This absolutely was NOT TRUE, however, it was the impetus for the ensuing ‘witch hunt’ (as is the same for so many of us nurses that have had our lives, careers, and reputations totally destroyed by this board)…

Her false allegations led to the AZBON to order a hair follicle drug test ON ME….negative except THC (I had a valid AZ medical cannabis card for my diabetic neuropathy)….the board deduced if it was in my hair, it was in my body in the previous 6 months and this meant I was treating patients while impaired ! This led them to emergently suspending my license in the name of public safety……..her allegation came in April, hair follicle drug test in June, the board when asked by me in July, let me move away from my attacker to another town on the other side of AZ, start working for a neurologist…then at the end of JULY decided I was a threat to public safety.

I contacted Ducey who said my civil rights were violated and to get an attorney…but who can afford an attorney when you cannot work because you have no license.

I was ordered a mental health and substance abuse eval by a psychologist…who submitted a lengthy report full of errors, omissions, and total misrepresentation of the facts…

I was told the only way back to licensure was to sign their agreement or go to court..I started to prepare for court…then found out it didnt matter what the judge thought or ruled as the AZBON had the final rule…so i dropped going to court and signed their agreement (without counsel and under extreme duress) and I had to admit to a pack of lies and agree to take all this rehab treatment, serial psych evals, narcotic sponsorship for 5 years and much more. I was unsafe to practice nursing on the public, yet not too unsafe to sign a legally binding contract that would have lasting, rippling futuristic effects for my life…without legal counsel and under extreme duress….

I went to the first NA meeting of 800 and was told my presence was highly inappropriate, so I left, came home, shredded their agreement and told the AZBON where to go…I was NOT an addict NOR would I walk the path of one…because of that ‘noncompliant’ move…my licenses were suspended for 5 years…(the same exact punishment that Michael Jacksons’ MD received for killing Michael with propofol ! )

This same board is violating nurse’s civil and due process rights daily ! They are very corrupt and crooked.

      • How is it that I had patients that were Prescott policemen, eye doctors, and surgeons with cannabis cards and they are not ‘practicing while impaired’?? Again, the Arizona Board of Nursing…a state agency…NOT a federal board of nursing….prove impairment….http://www.thecannabisadvisory.com/…/thc-in-blood-not…/

  3. Many patients post horrific situations with loved ones through negligence, mismanagement, medical errors, medical records disappearing ,lying, changed. They cannot find an attorney to take the case , with tort reform, but they always mention the “medical board did nothing ” . So the point is , if this Dr had been on staff and killed a patient she would still be practicing.

    • Unrelated. The medical boards really do nothing about bad doctors who harm patients ( be it through substandard care or even sexual abuse). Most involve doctors such as the one here who do not have any complaints and are in fact good doctors. This is not the case of a n impaired “stoned” doctor putting patients at risk but someone who was occasionally using a cannabis product legally for menstrual cramps who had a level of 0 when it was requested she undergo 90 days of unnecessary inpatient rehab. It’s false diagnosis and fraud.

  4. Different board, different state, same abuses of power. Throughout the nation, physicians, nurses, PAs, midwives. are all being stripped of our licenses in a host of circumstance that all lead to one final destination? The 90-day ” treatment provider ” that accepts cash money, and demands ” compliance’. If one’s practice is compromised likely all agree with the intervention of regulators, until then…keep your hands out of my bodily fluids, bank account, psyche…and other intrusions of my person. Am I still in the USA? The one I fought for? Not so sure anymore

  5. Having my own blog about cannabis (THeHempChronicles.blog) and studying the many benefits that it employs for people, I find stories like this to be ridiculous. Society and the government would rather someone treat their pain with opioids or prescribed medicine, than a substance that is organic and proven to help. Revoking a woman of her medical license because she found a method that worked to alleviate her pain is ridiculous and should not be allowed.
