Agree! 2010, in my first laborist position, my colleague was terminated due to a nursing complaint. I was called in to pitch in and lead the group. I wish I had spoken up then. My colleague who had been in practice for several years was not given a chance to even defend himself. He was our team leader. I spoke to him and know that it was a conspiracy. Then another colleague got terminated suddenly for a similar nursing complaint. Again I kept quite on the outside. However, this time, I started looking for another job. But, before I could find one, I was the 3rd physician they terminated. This time it was because of some lies told by my colleague. This happened in 2012. Since then, I have not been silent anymore. It feels good. Truth has to be established to prevent abuse and heal from abuse.

Thank you so much for all the time you have given me over the last three weeks in phone conversations and our text exchanges – on top of everything else you are juggling. While I pick up bits and pieces of what is happening with PHP reform around the country in my internet searches it was thrilling to hear what is currently happening behind the scenes.
Your plan to form a non-profit National Advocacy for Physician Health Program Reform – and a Watchdog organization – is spot on.
You mentioned that Medscape recently published an article you wrote, however I am unable to find a link to it. When you have a chance could you post it on this site? And the November 8th, 2016 Medscape article about Kernan Manions ongoing efforts in North Carolina? It’s a fantastic update.
I’ve put on my fundraising hat, with the goal of raising $2,000 for Disrupted Physicians. I have contacted 15 people, and five have committed to making a donation on my behalf – family, friends and colleagues who supported me during the most challenging time of my life. Because of them I got through it, and am rebuilding my life. I know many physicians in my state whose lives were disrupted by our PHP so I’ll keep making calls.
One question – how many people have now filled out your PHP survey, and based on their responses which states are currently in most need of reform? Last February one of your posts mentioned that 200 people had filled them out and you identified the top “physician career destroyer” states. I’m curious if the landscape has shifted since then.

Hundreds Katherine and the patterns are clear as day. The worst states appear to be NC, Massachusetts, Texas, Florida and Washington State – direct correlation between the abuse and how entrenched FSPHP is in the programs

Thank you for your response. I have been following internet trails re PHP’s the last year and from your posts and links have picked up bits and pieces of what is happening around the country.
The years of effort that you and J. Wesley Boyd in Massachusetts and Jesse Cavenar and Kernan Manion in North Carolina have invested in changing this system is extraordinary, and paying off.
It’s helpful to know that based on responses to your PHP Survey three other states – Texas, Florida and Washington State – are currently in the top five PHPs in most need of reform.
Which state PHP’s are doing it right?

Keep up the great work Michael. BTW, Katherine seems to have read my mind regarding forming a non profit. When will the non profit be launched?
Furthermore, do you or anybody else know how to go about getting a prominent, federal (even criminal) investigation into all PHPs? With or without the support of a non profit or watchdog group, such an investigation may be the most urgent priority because gathering signatures for an audit of each individual state’s PHP is extremely inefficient and leaves physicians in all the other states to rot in the meantime.

I’ve directed everyone to the top link “Please donate – making some serious gains but need funding and support”. Just clicked on it several times and a blank screen titled “502 Bad Gateway” pops up. Must be a glich.

I just read your January 11th Medscape article Why Doctors Need to Be Gutsy. Wonderfully written and thought provoking. The 51 comments, and the back and forth dialogue between people were great. If all 52 of us could be in one room and brain storm action steps together … What about a Disrupted Physician Conference? I’d be happy to host it in my city, or travel anywhere to meet some of the people whose stories and voices I’ve heard on this site.
